A single aged Jewish couple remained in Memel after all other Jews who were unable to escape in time had been deported to the Lublin region in Nazi Poland, it was learned here today.
This couple was also threatened with deportation but, following an appeal to the Berlin authorities, was permitted to remain, on condition that it turn over its house to the Nazis, who are paying 600 marks monthly as a pension in return.
