Fearing that Sweden may become involved in the war, German Jewish refugees in Stockholm are calling in large numbers at the Soviet consulate, seeking transit visas through Russia to reach the United States, Palestine and other countries, according to reports reaching Jewish relief organizations here today.
Most of these refugees either have American immigration visas or expect Palestine certificates under the new Holy Land immigration schedule. The Soviet Consulate was granting the transit visas in most cases.
The necessity of traveling via Russia gives no added difficulty to the Palestine-bound emigrants, since this route is no more expensive than via Trieste, but for America-bound refugees the Russian route requires a traversal of all of Soviet Russia and a crossing of the Pacific.
