Two prominent Belgian Jewish leaders have reached France safely, it was learned here today.
The leaders are Dr. Leon Kubowitzki, president of the Council of Jewish Societies in Belgium, and Max Liber, president of the Jewish Federation of Belgium. Dr. Kubowitzki is in Bordeaux while Liber is in Paris.
News has also been received here of the safe arrival in France of the noted Polish Jewish humorist, Joseph Tunkel, popularly known as Der Tunkeler, who had been living in Belgium since the Nazi occupation of Warsaw. According to a letter received by a friend here, Tunkel has been given permission to reside in any French city of his choice.
The Association of Jewish Small Traders in Paris has started a campaign for funds to provide clothing and underwear for the thousands of Jewish refugees from Belgium.
