‘wildest Confusion’ in Bordeaux

Bordeaux’s refugee situation is one of “wildest confusion,” Red Cross representative John Maloney cabled Washington headquarters today. He said:

“Bordeaux and region face almost insoluble problem with refugees continuously incoming despite attempts military authorities stem inflow. City already overcrowded with 150,000 homeless refugees faces possibility influx will reach 300,000. Re-evacuation hampered lack trucks and rail equipment. French also refugeeing from departments along Italian border and Riviera. Bordeaux railroad stations duplicate Paris scenes four weeks ago. Families sleeping parks and fields with mothers and young babies greatest sufferers. Ten infants born on Bordeaux bound refugee trains.”
