Brazil Ready for Talks on Jewish Immigration, Official Says

The Brazilian immigration authorities are prepared to negotiate with “recognized, responsible Jewish organizations” on the question of Jewish immigration for colonization, Immigration Director Carlos Muniz today told Rabbi J.X., Cohen of New York, who is here as a member of the American Commission for Cultural Exchange With South America. The commission has been given an official reception by President Getulio Vargas and Foreign Minister Oswaldo Aranha.

Dr. Cohen, who represents the American Jewish Congress and the World Jewish Congres quoted Dr. Muniz as stating that immigration of 150 Jewish capitalists monthly and 3,000 relatives of Brazilian residents was possible this year. Dr. Cohen is chairman of the Commission on Economic Problems of the American Jewish Congress.
