Industrial expansion going on in Palestine despite the war will be the key to a bright future for the Jewish homeland–if the Allies win–predicted Moses Novoneysky, managing director of the Palestine Potash Co., Ltd. Novomeysky arrived at LaGuardia Field here today aboard the Dixie Clipper from Lisbon on the second leg of his return trip from London to Palestine.
Director of one of Palestine’s most important industries himself, Novomeysky said that when he left Palestine in April, “people were working ahead courageously,” and that news he has received since that time bore signs of even greater expansion to come.
Palestine has become the leading source of potash for the Allied armies, a situation which has made for rapid development of the Dead Sea chemical extraction concession and other chemical industries in Palestine, he added.
People in Palestine as well as England are optimistic, Novomesky declared. “All believe in England’s ultimate victory,” he said, adding, “the Jews in Palestine are joining the British army in large numbers. They know that Britain is their only friend. If Hitler wins, they face only destruction.”
Americans were credited by Novomeysky for a large part of the rapid and continued growth of Palestine’s economic and industrial life. He said that now, more than ever before, “more than half the capital is American.” Among Americans he praised for the work in connection with the development of his own company, of which the Earl of Lytton is chairman, were Bernard Flexner, Israel Brodie and Judge Julian Mack.
Novomeysky will stay at the Gladstone Hotel in New York for at least two weeks before continuing to Palestine by way of Singapore and Iraq.
