Berlin Reports Anti-jewish Riots in French Morocco

The German wireless reported today in a Rome dispatch that a Jew was killed and several persons were wounded when French officers attacked Jews at Fez, French Morocco.

The demonstrators, shouting “Down with the Jews! Long Live France and Marshal Petain!” beat up Jews with sticks, it was claimed. Several shots were fired during the affray, which occurred in the Jewish Mellah quarter of Fez, the wireless said. Among to wounded were some of the demonstrators, the report asserted. Disciplinary action alleged was taken against the officers.

The wireless said anti-Semitic disturbances were continuing in French North Afri with both Arabs and Frenchmen participating in the attacks. All Jewish shops on the masteries of Algiers and Casablanca were either destroyed or damaged, it was claimed.
