Abraham Schrameck, former Minister of the Interior, has been “administratively interned” at the village of Pellevoisin, it was announced today.
Schrameck was for a long time vice president of the Democratic Left group in the Senate, consisting mainly of Radical Socialists. He was twice Minister of the Interior in the time of the Left cartel founded by Edouard Herriot when he rose to the premiership after the 1924 elections.
(A New York Times dispatch from Vichy said the fact that Schrameck was interned in a village might indicate the accusation was not concerned with the war. A clew to the charges, the dispatch added, might lie in a correction issued yesterday to the recent decree extending the scope of the Supreme Court’s Jurisdiction to offenses of a financial nature, such as malversation of public funds regardless of the statute of limitations. The correction added “bribery” to the enumeration of these offenses.).
