Oscar Gruesenburg, Defender of Mendel Beiliss, Dead at 74 in Nice

Oscar Gruesenberg, who gained international renown as chief of counsel in the famous Mendel Beiliss ritual murder trial in Kiev has died in Nice, it was reported here today.

Gruesenberg also represented such famous figures as Maxim Gorky, Milyukov and Leon Trotsky in political cases and represented Jewish interests before the Senate Tribunal on the Kishineff pogrom. While a resident of Latvia, where he moved after the Bolshevist revolution, he was a member of the Jewish Agency Council. He had been a member of the Senate in the Kerensky Government in 1917.
