A Government spokesman said in Commons today that it was for the local authorities to decide on admission of aliens to civil defense services and the Home Office was allowing the local authorities to employ as many aliens as they as they desired.

The statement was made by Mabane, parliamentary secretary to the Ministry of Home Security, replying to a question by Col. Josiah Wedgwood, Laborite, as to whether anti-Nazi Germans and German Jews who are now admitted into the Auxiliary Territorial Service would likewise be admitted to Air-Raid Precautions squads.

Miss Eleanor Rathbone, Independent, suggested that the Home Office issue a press statement to that effect in view of the uncertainty among women aliens about ought to be quite clear. He added that if there was any doubt he was prepared to take it up with the local authorities concerned.
