Passenger sailing from Marseille to the United States, which has been interrupted since the collapse of France, may shortly be resumed, it was stated here today in circles interested in facilitating transportation of refugees from unoccupied France to countries on the American continent.
The American Consulate in Marseille, it is reported here, expects to issue this year far more visas than last year in view of the decision of the State Department to “unblock” the quotas. This will make it possible for many refugees in unoccupied France to receive immigration visas under the German, Polish and Czechoslovakian quotas, provided that they can prove that they are actually booked for sailing on a steamer proceeding to the United States from some port in Europe.
The French authorities are not hindering holders of United States visas in leaving the country. Exit permits for such refugees are given without any difficulties, even to refugees who are interned in refugee camps.
