A furious attack on the Jews was made yesterday by Arthur Seyss-Inquart, German Commissioner for Holland, in a broadcast to the Dutch people.

“You may take it as definite that whenever we meet them we will beat them until they are vanquished,” he said. “It is said our attitude regarding the Jews is contrary to the basic principles of Dutch life. We will not suppress the Dutch people, but we do not consider the Jews an integral part of the Netherlands people. The Jews are simply their enemies. There can neither be armistice or peace with them.

“Whoever chooses to go with the Jews will be harmed thereby. One might think of a temporary solution, but I an asking myself whether the Dutch people will forsake cooperation with the German people merely for the benefit of the Jews.”

The speech was taken as confirmation of reports that the Dutch have been resisting Nazi efforts to institute anti-Semitic measures. In Amsterdam, strikes are said to have broken out in protest against anti-Jewish actions.
