Citing continuing difficulties of members of minority groups in obtaining employment in defense industries, Governor Lehman has invited 27 prominent citizens to work with the State Defense Council to end discrimination in this field.
“At a time when the need for extending industrial activity is calling forth the ut-most effort of both public and private organizations it is unpardonable defeatism for us not to find a way to use the labor resources which these minority groups represent,” the Governor said in a letter to the 27. “Experience clearly indicates the loss of productive resources which such a course entails.”
Earlier, Lehman signed the Kreinheder bill, which is designed to end “swear” tactics in political campaigns by compelling identification of the sources of all printed political propaganda. A large part of such propaganda in recent campaigns has been of an anti-Semitic nature.
