Declaring that the Jews had been fighting the battle of the democracies for more than seven years, Major Victor A. Cazelet, British M.P., urged today in a press interview that a Jewish state in Palestine be established at the end of the war in order to bring about the solution of the problem of Jewish homelessness in many parts of the world.
Major Cazelet, who arrived recently in this country as liaison officer between the British Government and Polish Premier Sikorski has for many years been chairman of the Palestine Committee and Refugee Committee in the House of Commons. In a press statement at the headquarters of the Emergency Committee for Zionist Affairs, he said that in view of its strategic geographical position Palestine was bound to play an important role in the defense of the Suez Canal.
“The Jewish problem cannot be solved until a Jewish state in Palestine has been established,” he said, emphasizing that Palestine had made as great a contribution to the solution of the Jewish refugee problem as all other countries in the world combined. “A Jewish state in Palestine would have been invaluable in the defense of Britain in the present Mediterranean crisis,” he declared.
