During the first four months of 1941, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee appropriated $2,293,600 for an eight-point emergency relief, rehabilitation and emigration program, it was announced today. Of this sum, $1,700,000 represents regular monthly appropriations and the balance consists of special one-time and emergency grants to be prorated over the remainder of the year.
A total of $700,000 was set aside during this period to defray emigration transportation costs for Jews seeking to escape from Europe. The report indicated that the scope of J.D.C. work had to be broadened to bring help to hundreds of thousands of Jews engulfed in the conflagration of war and oppression abroad.
