Mass eviction of Jews from their homes was reported here today from Milan, Turin and other Italian cities while from Trieste came a report that the offices of the Jewish community there were raided by the police and that a number of Jewish community leaders were arrested.
Those evicted were permitted to move into any section of Italy they wished but not permitted to take their furniture and other household property. The reason given for the raid on the headquarters of the Jewish community in Trieste was that the Jews were spreading anti-Fascist propaganda among the Italian population.
The new anti-Jewish measures were taken by Jewish leaders in Rome as indication that a more severe course against Italian Jewry is to he expected now that Italy has fallen entirely under the domination of Germany. In addition to the Italian Jews, about 1,800 German and Polish Jews are interned in special camps and about 1,400 other Jewish refugees, mostly women and children who are permitted to reside in Milan and Rome.
Reports from Tunis state that Italian propagandists are spreading violent anti-Jewish propaganda, exploiting the fact that Jews are fighting in the British ranks against the Italian army on the Libyan front.
