An appeal to the Soviet government to reconsider its anti-Zionist policy is published today in the Zionist Review, official Zionist organ, in the form of an editorial carrying the title “The U.S.S.R. and Jews.”
The Soviet government is now displaying a changed attitude toward the Poles in the Russian-Polish negotiations. A new approach on the part of the Soviet would appear to be called for in the case of the Jewish problem, also, the editorial points out. A friendly gesture on the part of the Soviet government towards the Zionist movement, which is a movement for Jewish national revival, would create a favorable impression on millions of Jews throughout the world, especially among the Jewish of the United States and Great Britain, the Zionist paper asserts.
Commenting on the situation in the Near East in the same issue, the Zionist Review says that the Jews are ready and willing to cooperate in organizing the Middle East for a victory over Hitler but the Jewish people must be consulted if the British government should for any reason make any plans or commitments which may affect the post-war shape of things in the Middle East. Palestine’s large skilled man power must be harnessed to the war effort. The Jewish workers of Palestine must be transferred from consumers production and trained for the most urgent war work.
