The Board of Deputies of British Jews today adopted a report of its Palestine committee recommending discontinuance of the Board’s efforts to bring about a round-table conference of Zionists, Revisionists and the Agudas Israel with a view toward reaching a policy of cooperation on matters concerning Palestine. “The continuance of the Board’s endeavour could serve no useful purpose,” the report said.
Prof. Selig Brodetsky, chairmen of the Board, paid tribute at today’s meeting to Dr. Otto Hirsch, the head of the Reichsvereinigung of the Jews in Germany whose death in a Nazi prison was reported last week, and to Dr. David Jochelman, chairman of the Federation of Jewish Relief Organisations of Great Britain, who died this month in London. He emphasised the devotion with which Dr. Hirsch, at the risk of his life, carried out his mission as leader of the Jews in the Reich, and spoke of the important role which Dr. Jochelmen played in the relief activities for the Jews of Eastern and South-Eastern European countries. The gathering stood in silence during Prof. Brodetsky’s eulogy.
