The Pan-American Jewish Conference scheduled to take place in Baltimore at the end of October will be postponed for one month, it was announced here today by Stephen S. Wise, president of the American Jewish Congress. The postponement was necessitated by the fact that the delegation from Argentina found it impossible to leave for the United States in time for the October date.
The Conference will open in Baltimore on Nov. 23 and will last three days. All of the business sessions of the Conference will be private, in order to permit a complete and frank discussion of common problems. There will, however, be two public sessions, one on Sunday afternoon, November 23, which will take the form of a public meeting, and a concluding session on the evening of November 25, in the form of a banquet. Delegates will come to the United States from the following lands: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela, Canada, Guatemala, Nicaragua, E1 Salvador and Honduras.
Among the matters to be discussed, according to present plans, are the problems of the restoration of rights for Jews at the conclusion of the war: relief and reconstruction; defense against anti-Semitic propaganda; strengthening of democracy; and the creation of a permanent form of cooperation among the various Jewish communities on the American continent.
