“The brutal destruction of Jewish communities in Eastern and Central Europe has not only impoverished large segments of the Jewish people economically but has also rendered them impotent from the point of view of cultural creativity,” it was stated by Dr. Mordecai Soltes, chairman of the National Committee for Jewish Book Week, in an introductory message to a Book Week Manual, issued by the Committee today for use in connection with the 1941 observance of National Jewish Book Week from November 23 to 30. Reports received at the national office today indicate that a variety of programs in celebration of Jewish Book Week will be conducted in hundreds of communities throughout the United States.
