Jewish Social Problems Widely Discussed in Social Service Organ

Almost every phase of Jewish social problems is treated in the current issue of the Jewish Social Service Quarterly, published here today, in its presentation of the major proceedings of the National Conference of Jewish Social Welfare which met in Atalantic City in June of this year. The Quarterly is the official organ of the National Conference.

Community, national and institutional problems are discussed in papers by William J. Shroder of Cincinnati, Chairman of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds; Kurt Peiser of the Philadelphia Federation of Jewish Charities; and Joseph Kleinman of the St. Louis Jewish Orthodox Old Folks Home. Papers on Overseas and Migration Conditions are contributed by Arthur Lourie of the Emergency Committee for Zionist Affairs, Moses W. Beckelman and Joseph J. Schwartz of the Joint Distribution Committee and Cecilia Razovsky of the National Refugee Service.

Henry Monsky of the B’nai B’rith and Frank L. Weil of the Jewish Welfare Board write on two separate aspects of the national defense situation. Papers dealing with the present status of Jewish education are presented by Samuel Dinin of New York Teachers Institute and Azriel Eisenberg of the Cleveland Bureau of Jewish Education, while a separate discussion of health services is contributed by Frances N. Harrison of the Philadelphia Federation of Jewish Charities.

Four experts discuss the subject of employment problems and vocational services: Eli E. Cohen of the New York Jewish Occupational Council, H. I. Barron of the Chicago Bureau of Jewish Employment Problems. A. L. Sudran of the Cleveland Jewish Vocational Service, and Richard L. Plaut of the New York Federation Employment Service.
