More than 600 Jews were massacred by the Nazis in the Soviet city of Rostov prior to their retreat from that city, according to a report received in London today from Moscow.
The report states that all along the line of the German retreat the bodies of large numbers of massacred Jewish civilians were found. The Jews were usually shot by the retreating Nazis on the charge that they were aiding the Russian military forces by signalling information to them concerning the location of the German troops. In one village on the Moscow front some 2,000 Jews who were being used by the Nazi military command for forced labor on the front line, were liberated by the advancing Russian army when the German soldiers had to leave their position hurriedly.

All Jews were evicted from their dwellings by the German occupation authorities in the cities of Berditchev, Zhitomir, Gomel, Minsk, Mohilev, Pskov, Orsha, Krementchug, Nikolayev. Jewish homes are being used to shelter the German soldiers for the winter.
Addressing the German youth over the radio last night from Stettin, the Nazi district leader, Ditschlag, urged every member of the Hitler Youth Organization to “be able to show on his record that he caused the death of at least one Jew.”
The Nazi-controlled Polish newspaper, Goniec Krakowski, reports that 200 Jewish families in Wlodzimiers near Piotrokow, Nazi-occupied Poland, are now homeless as a result of a fire which burned down their houses.
