Flying Officer William Treger, a Jew, who has successfully completed 53 bombings of enemy territory, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, it was disclosed here today.
The citation accompanying the award to Treger, who is a member of the R.A.F. Volunteer Reserve of Southern Rhodesia, states: “Since July, 1940, Flying Officer Treger has completed 53 operational missions, involving some 320 hours’ flying. During the period 25th June to 31st July, 1941, Flying Officer Treger carried out 16 missions with coolness and success. In an attack on Tripoli harbor, despite intense anti-aircraft fire, he succeeded in obtaining a direct hit on an 8,000-ton tanker, which was destroyed. Throughout, Flying Officer Treger has shown the utmost keenness and determination, and set a fine example to all.”
