Solidarity with the Jews of Nazi-oppressed European countries was expressed in a message of encouragement sent to them by the Canadian Jewish Congress last night following the closing of its three-day plenary session at which Samuel Bronfmen was re-elected national president.
The session also adopted a resolution expressing “admiration for the magnificent struggle of the Russian people” and urging the Soviet government to release imprisoned or exiled Zionists. Another resolution demands that Jews in Palestine be allowed “to fight under their own flag as do all other allied nations.”
In its message to the Jews in Nazi-held countries, the Canadian Jewish Congress said: “Courage, fellow Jews. The time is not far distant when the fetters which shackle your bodies and degrade your spirits, will be struck from you and you will again be able to live as free men in an enlightened free society.”
Canadian Jewry was called upon in one of the resolutions to make still greater contributions and sacrifices to Canada’s war effort. Other resolutions call for adherence of the Congress to the Inter-American Jewish Council recently formed at the Pan-American Jewish Conference in Baltimore, for participation in the World Jewish Congress and for unstinting support to the Jewish Agency.
