The extent to which the Palestine Government is censoring news of Jewish interest in Palestine is revealed today in an editorial in the Manchester Guardian demanding that Parliament probe the censorship policy of the Palestine administration.
The Guardian declares that in addition to suppressing reports concerning the Jewish recruiting campaign in Palestine, the censor has forbidden publication of “some purely political articles.” Also suppressed was the story of the death of Leo Gutfreund, Czech Jewish refugee, who, after his release from the internment camp at Athlit, joined the Czech Legion and was killed in Libya. Another article which was censored, the editorial discloses, was one praising the exchange of visits between teachers and students of Hebrew and Arab schools. Publication of Prime Minister Churchill’s statement in Commons on last July 30, when he stated that the British Government’s policy on Palestine remained unchanged, was also prohibited.
“One would think it incredible that anything should be done to obstruct the earliest publication of an answer in the British Parliament by the Prime Minister,” the Manchester Guardian writes. It asks that the House of Commons immediately insist on a full report of what happened.
