A special “ghetto fish market” has been set up for the Jewish residents of the French North African city of Tunis, it is reported in the Tunisian newspaper Petit Matin, reaching here today.
Because of the serious food shortage the authorities have decreed four “meatless days” every week, resulting in a great increase in the demand for fish. This has taxed the facilities of the general fish market to such an extent that the Jews have been relegated to a small market set up for them and they are forbidden to purchase fish elsewhere, the report in Petit Matin states.
