Mass-deportations of Jews from towns along the line which formed the Soviet-German frontier before the Nazis went to war against Russia are reported here today from Poland. The report says that thousands of Jews are being driven from their home towns to the ghetto in Warsaw as the result of fortifications which the German military command are constructing on Polish soil as a precaution against the continued Soviet offensive on the Eastern front.

At the same time it was reported here today that the Nazi authorities in Warsaw have ordered thousands of Jews in the ghetto to move from their homes, declaring that certain streets in the ghetto must be “evacuated” to make room for Poles. The ousting of tens of thousands of Jews in the Warsaw ghetto from their quarters coupled with the arrival there of thousands of Jewish deportees from other towns is creating unbearable living conditions in the part of the ghetto where the Jews are being concentrated. In many houses there are as many as a dozen people living in one room.

The Jewish Council in the Warsaw ghetto is reported to have taken special precautionary measures to protect the health of the Jewish children who are attending the ghetto schools. A special hygienic department has been established for this purpose. According to a report published by the Warsaw Jewish Council, the level of the Jewish schools in the ghetto is very high and efforts are being made to open more schools in order to keep the children under proper supervision and away from the overcrowded rooms in which they live, for as long as possible each day.

Dr. Boris Tschlenoff, representative of the OSE Union in Switzerland, today announced here that be recently sent several medical shipments to the hospitals in the Warsaw ghetto and that he is making arrangements for sending more shipments.
