Dewey Hails Feats of Jewish Soldiers in Address at B’nai B’rith Victory Rally

The part played by Jewish soldiers in the last war and the feats of individual heroism already performed by Jewish men in the armed forces in the present war were hailed here last night by Thomas E. Dewey, Republican party leader and former New York County district attorney, in an address delivered at a “Wake Up America” rally sponsored by the Manhattan lodges of the B’nai B’rith.

Appealing for complete national unity in the struggle against the Fascist powers, Mr. Dewey emphasized that we must “know and root out our homegrown enemies.” Evidently referring to the recent exposes of Nazis and anti-Semites who held or hold leading positions in our defense setup, Mr. Dewey declared: “The technique of the fifth column is carried out by native traitors. They may not even work as foreign agents. They work for love of a foreign system or hatred of their own free system.”
