The last few Jewish stores that remained open in the Norwegian city of Trondheim were closed last week by order of the Quisling authorities, it was learned here today.
The news of the execution of four Norwegian Jews in Trondheim on Sunday on the charge that they were listening to British broadcasts from London is prominently featured in the Nazi-controlled Norwegian press. The Quisling newspapers are using these executions as a pretext for indulging in intensified anti-Jewish propaganda.
Accusing the Jews of being “British agents,” the pro-Nazi publications in Norway warn the Norwegian population against showing any signs of sympathy for Jews. “Whoever is for the Jews is an enemy of Norway,” is the new slogan under which the Quisling press carries on its anti-Jewish campaign. Some of the Quisling newspapers openly demand the deportation of all Jews from Norway along the same lines as this is being done in Germany.
