The several hundred delegates attending the 1942 Biennial Convention of the United Synagogue of America here were called upon today by a number of speakers to reorganize Jewish life to meet war conditions.
Addressing the convention on the present world situation, Rabbi Henry Fisher of Rochester said that “the crux of the world’s problem today lies not so much in political and economic spheres, but basically in the realm of the spirit.” Cooperation of the synagogue with community philanthropy was pledged by all speakers who participated in the panel discussion on “the position of the United Synagogue of America and its influence in Jewish life.”
Dr. Alexander Dushkin of New York spoke of the central position which the United Synagogue of America occupies in the Jewish educational activities combining heritage and modern pedagogy. Rabbi Abraham Heller of Brooklyn asked for greater participation of the synagogue in the work of Palestine.
