On the eve of “Polish Constitution Day,” which will be celebrated here on Sunday, President Wladislaw Rasckiewicz of the Polish Government-in-exile today received a delegation of prominent Polish rabbis now in Britain and pledged that he would “carefully study the problem of protecting Jewish rights under the present circumstances and of educating the Polish people in the spirit of harmonious collaboration with all humanity.”
The Polish president emphasized his friendly attitude towards the Jews and the deep respect he felt for the Jewish religious principles of humanity and justice. He expressed confidence that the present war, “which is a struggle between good and evil,” would result in the restoration of Poland as a country belonging to all its citizens without distinction. The rabbis asked the president to use his influence to ensure the realization of the equality and freedom which have been promised to the Jewish minority in Poland, and that he take steps to lay the groundwork for full religious freedom and free development of Jewish culture in post-war Poland.
