Nazi authorities in occupied Holland are becoming more and more perturbed over the fact that the Protestant and Catholic churches have formed a united front to protest not only against Nazi persecution of the Christian faith, but also against the anti-Jewish measures introduced in the country.
“What God has not achieved for centuries, the yellow star for Jews has accomplished,” the Dutch Nazi newspaper “Volk en Vaderland” which reached here today writes, commenting sarcastically on the unity reached between the leaders of the Catholic and Protestant churches.
The paper refers to the fact that for the first time since the occupation of Holland the two churches have issued an almost identical Pastoral Letter condemning the Nazi attacks on Christianity and “the lawlessness and mercilessness against the Jewish population.” The letter was read in all Protestant and Catholic churches throughout Holland on Sunday, April 19, according to the paper.
