English Jews Offer Hospitality to American-jewish Soldiers in England

Preparations are being made to accommodate Jewish soldiers stationed with the American forces in England in the homes of Jewish families here, it was announced today by Donald Cohen, secretary of the Jewish War Services Committee. A list of Jewish households willing to offer hospitality to Jewish soldiers from the United States and their Christian friends is now being drawn up, Mr. Cohen stated. The Jewish War Services Committee, he said, has already opened a center in Woburn House here which is largely patronized by both Jewish and Christian soldiers from America who receive tea, refreshments and tickets to the theatre and cinema.

The Association of Jewish Refugees here today adopted a resolution expressing horror at the Nazi atrocities against Jews. Another resolution passed by the refugees requests the British Government to permit the formation of a Jewish military force in Palestine and the organization of Palestine Jews into a Home Guard.

Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of the Poale Zion organization today called upon the labor movement of Greet Britain to do its utmost to help secure the creation of a Jewish army and home guard in Palestine. “For the Jewish people, Palestine is the last stronghold from which there is no retreat,” a resolution adopted by the gathering read. “For Jews, any military misfortune there spells the extermination of a community of more than a half-million people, and would deliver a death blow to the hopes and aspirations of the Jewish people.”
