The story of how a million Jews have been murdered by the Nazis in occupied countries, how two and one-half million are being starved to death in ghettos and the remainder of the seven million under Nazi domination exposed to economic annihilation and other brutalities with a view toward total extermination, will be told tomorrow evening at Madison Square Garden, where more than 20,000 people will assemble for the purpose of exposing and condemning Hitler atrocities and making known to Hitler that he will be held accountable for his crimes.
The demonstration is being arranged under the joint auspices of the American Jewish Congress, the B’nai B’rith and the Jewish Labor Committee for the purpose of condemning the mass-slaughter of defenseless populations by Hitler, and in view of the threat of the Nazis to exterminate the whole Jewish people, to invoke adequate action to defend the threatened Jewish communities of Europe against new assaults; to secure support for the self-defense of the Jewish community of Palestine now endangered by the common enemy; and to strengthen the assistance of the Jewish community to the United Nations in their war upon the Axis.
Representatives of the Jewish community will be joined at Madison Square Garden by many representatives of American public opinion who will address the meeting. These include, among others, Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia, Bishop Francis J. McConnell, head of the Methodist Church of New York; the President of the American Federation of Labor, William Green; the International President of the Marine and Ship Builders Union who will represent the C.I.O., Mr. Johnny Green.
The Central Representation Of Polish Jews here today issued an appeal to the Allied Nations to “take immediate steps to repress the German beast and to show him that there is still justice in the world.” Each day that passes without such action being taken brings death to thousands, the appeal stated. It also asked the Allied Governments to “save Polish Jewry from starvation.” At the same time the group issued a message to the Jews of Poland urging them not to lose hope since the fight for their freedom continues.
