The formation of a Palestine Auxiliary Work Corps and a Palestine Auxiliary Communication Corps to be ready for immediate service “in case of tumult, or riots, or attacks on Palestine” was announced in the Palestine Gazette during the weekend. These new units are in addition to the Palestine Defense Corps which, it was announced last week, will be used for the performance of essential services in the event of emergencies in the country.
The members of the two newly formed units will have to perform such duties as are assigned them in any place in Palestine. The Auxiliary Works Corps will work under the supervision of the Director for Public Works, while the Auxiliary Communication Corps will be supervised by the Postmaster General. Both units are under the direct command of the High Commissioner.
Problems concerning the coordination of the production of food stuffs and war supplies in Palestine, Transjordan and Iraq are now being discussed here by the Palestine High Commissioner, the Regent of Iraq and Emir Abdullah, the ruler of Transjordan. The latter two, escorted by member of their governments, are at present in Palestine as guests of the High Commissioner.
The ex-Mufti of Jerusalem, who has become the chief adviser to the Axis on subversive, anti-Democratic and anti-Jewish propaganda among the Arab population of the Middle East, has taken up residence at Bari, in Italy, from where he will direct broadcasts to the Arabs, according to information reaching here today. About thirty programs are being beamed to the Arabs of the Middle East by the Axis every day.
