Governor Herbert H. Lehman and Dr. Louis Finkelstein, president of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, announced today that they are calling a conference of Jewish leaders to discuss with them the development of a consistent, integrated program for the Seminary in its efforts to strengthen the Jewish faith and the democratic tradition.

“The enemy of civilization has made the destruction of Judaism a primary element in his war-aims. However, his attack on the Jewish faith is obviously but one phase of an onslaught on all western religion. The preservation of Judaism thus becomes, more clearly than ever, an essential in the defense and advancement of civilization.” Governor Lehman said in the announcement.
