Jews in Nazi Europe Will Face Stricter Measures in 1943, German Radio Says

Leaders of the United Nations, in reviewing the past year, today emphasized the fact that one-half of the 4,000,000 civilians – killed by the Nazis were Jews. The opinion was also expressed that the number of persons massacred by the Nazis in occupied countries is larger than the number of men killed on the battlefields.

At the same time the Nazi radio stations in a broadcast heard here to day indicated that the extermination of the Jews in occupied countries may be carried out in 1943 even “more thoroughly” than in the year just closed. The broadcast announced that “beginning with January 1, all institutes set up in the Reich for the purpose of studying the Jewish question will coordinate their activities” in order to achieve a more speedy solution of the Jewish problem.

A White Paper on the Nazi extermination of the Jews in Poland was issued yesterday by the Polish Government-in-Exile here. The introduction to the document says that the White Paper is published “in the hope that the civilized world will draw appropriate conclusions,” The not of the Polish Government to the governments of the United Nations which resulted in the joint statement issued by the Allied Nations warning the Nazis of retribution for the mass-killing of Jews, is included in the White Book.

The Polish Minister of Information, Stanislaw Stronski; the Czechoslovak Minister of State, Hubert Ripka and Prime Minister Johan Nygaardsovold of the Norwegian Government-in-Exile, in special New Year’s messages to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, emphasize the tragedy of the Jews in their respective countries. “The year which just closed has witnessed despicable terror and barbarous persecution against the innocent Jews in Norway who for generations enjoyed complete equality and were considered a part of the Norwegian people,” the Norwegian Prime Minister said, pointing out that the people of Norway are entering the New Year more confident than ever in the forthcoming defeat of the Nazis. The Polish Minister, speaking of the “hundreds of thousands of Jews murdered by the Nazis in Poland,” declared that “the Nazi cruelties of 1942 excelled all previous years.”
