Arab resentment at the relaxation of the Vichy anti-Jewish laws in North Africa will subside as the economic position of the Arab population improves under the new regime, the Sunday press in London believes. The newspaper emphasize however, that for the time being these laws are being rescinded at a much slower pace than under Darlan.
The question of the restoration of full rights to the Jews is one of the major problems which the Allied authorities face in North Africa, the newspapers report. It is easy to impose anti-Jewish laws, but it is very difficult to have them repealed immediately when the native population is still under the influence of anti-Jewish propaganda, the reports point out. The British and American authorities in North Africa, however, are reported to be determined to abolish all anti-Jewish measures.
