A common grave containing the bodies of an estimated 20,000 Jews massacred by the Nazis was discovered by Red Army units which re-occupied the Causican town of Pyatigorsk, it was reported here today.
The grave was said to be near a monument to the Russian “poet of the Caucasus,” Mikhail Lermontov, author of a famous poem commemorating the Russian defeat of Napoleon and of another condemning Jewish persecution in Spain during the Inquisition.
