Jews in Algeria May Be Given Representation on Economic War Council

One or two Jews may be included in the Algerian Economic War Council which has been formed by Marcel Peyrouton, Governor General of Algeria, as an advisory body, it was learned here today. The Council, composed of 39 members, will include 12 Arabs.

Axis radio stations today intensified their anti-Jewish campaign in broadcasts to the Moslem population in North Africa, urging the Arabs to fight against the relaxation of the anti-Jewish laws. At the same time the Berlin radio reported that Moslems in the city of Algiers staged a demonstration against Gen. Giraud to emphasize their opposition to the cancellation of the anti-Jewish laws.

Jews of Portuguese, Spanish and Swiss nationality were released this week by the Vichy authorities from internment camps in France and will be permitted to return to their native lands, it was reported here today. The deportations from France of Jews from other countries continue unabated, the report stated.
