Steps have already been taken to select those Jewish children who will emigrate from Bulgaria to Palestine in according with the agreement negotiated by the British Government under which 4,000 Jewish children and 500 adults will be permitted to leave the country, it was announced today in the House of Commons by Colonial Secretary Capt. Oliver Stanley. Capt. Stanley added, however, that he was unable to state when transportation to Palestine would be available.
Home Secretary Herbert Morrison, replying in Commons to a question as to whether the restrictions on the entry of alien Jews, especially elderly relatives of refugees already in Britain, would be removed, confined himself to citing the statement made in Parliament yesterday by Foreign Secretary Eden. The essence of Eden’s statement was that the only effective means of aiding the Jews in Europe was a victory of the Allies. Morrison rejected the suggestion that he receive a delegation to discuss refugee problems, pointing out that he had seen such a group recently. He referred to the all-party delegation which saw him two weeks ago and demanded more effective measures to help Jews in Nazi held countries.
