The British Government has not given up hope of transporting 4,000 Jewish children and 500 adults from Bulgaria to Palestine, Capt. Oliver Stanley, Colonial Minister, declared in the House of Commons today. The Government is making every effort possible to overcome the practical difficulties which stand in the way, he said.
It was learned here today from reliable sources that the Bulgarian Government has issued instructions to its officials to extend all facilities possible to Jews desiring to emigrate from the country. On the other hand, it has been established that the ships assigned by the Bulgarian authorities for the transportation of the 4,000 Jewish children are unseaworthy and the Red Cross, which is to supervise the transportation, definitely refuses to assume any responsibility for passengers carried on these vessels.
