The London Times, in an editorial discussing Britain’s post-war policy on refugees, urges the granting of British citizenship “to all those who during the war fought or labored for Britain, or for the United Nations on British soil.”

Pointing out that “it would be a comparatively small step” to make it possible now for these refugees to become British subjects, the editorial says that the final fate of the refugees of the world depends on the policies pursued after the war in the sphere of economics. “Everything turns on the question of whether the Governments of the high standard countries boldly embark on policies of expansion and full employment or whether they revert to a vain attempt, ultimately fatal to themselves as well as to others, to protect their standards of living by policies of restriction and exclusion,” the article says.
