Carl M. Loeb, Jr., prominent in communal activities here, has been named chairman of the War Emergency Campaign of the National Jewish Welfare Board. Announcement to this effect was made today by Frank L. Neil, president of the National Jewish Welfare Board and Walter Rothschild, chairman of its Army and Navy Committee.
In assuming the post of chairman, Mr. Loeb said: “The Jewish Welfare Board receives U.S.O. allotments as an agency of the U.S.O. But it must meet its own budget for the special religious and welfare needs of Jews in uniform and for the maintenance of its normal peacetime operations, more than ever essential in war-time, in communities throughout the United States. All Americans have reason to take pride in the interfaith non-sectarian service the Jewish Welfare Board is rendering and also in its religious program for those of the Jewish faith. The vital need for religious activities to aid high morale of the soldier, sailor and marine has been demonstrated time and again. The Jewish Welfare Board’s work in that field represents a significant contribution to their fighting spirit.
Associated with Mr. Loeb as honorary chairman are: Paul Baerwald, Mrs. Sidney C. Borg, Henry Ittleson, Edward Lazansky, Mrs. Arthur Lehman, Samuel D. Leisdesdorf, Harry H. Liebovitz, George Z. Medalie, and Josech M. Proskauer.
