Canadian Jewish Post-war Charity Problems Discussed in Montreal

The pressing need to strengthen the financial position of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, not only to meet immediate needs but to enable the Federation to cope with the major problems it will face in post-war years, was stressed at its annual meeting here in the joint report of Samuel Bronfman, president, and E.E. Workman, chairman of the executive committee.

“None of us knows what lies immediately ahead,” the report said, “but it is very evident to all that there will fall upon the Federation many post-war problems, the solution of which will call for a sound financial position. It is to be hoped devoutly that the time will eventually come when all forms of charity will be but a memory – that man may live in complete freedom from want, in complete assurance of all the necessities of life. However, that day is not yet, and the Federation is now looking at some of the problems with which it will be faced at the cessation of hostilities.”
