A revolutionary cutting device which makes it possible to machine quarts crystals in 32 minutes instead of the three days previously required, has been invented here by a Jewish refugee from Hungary, Dr. Y. Clynes, who emigrated to Australia five years ago.
Dr. Clynes’ machine will speed the production of radios needed by the armed forces. It is expected that America and Britain will order several of the machines for use in their own factories. Minister of Munitions Norman Makin, visiting Dr. Clynes’ workshop, paid tribute to “the contributions to Australia being made by this type of future citizen.” Dr. Clynes some time ago designed an aeronautical testing laboratory that was so successful that it was ordered by American aircraft firms.
