An appeal to the International Red Cross to ascertain the fate of the 53,000 Salonika Jews who were deported from Greece to unknown destinations in Eastern Europe early this year, was voiced today in a resolution adopted here by a meeting of the Greek-Jewish Settlers Association called to mark the third anniversary of the invasion of their homeland. Another resolution adopted by the meeting urged Turkey to grant transit visas to Jewish refugees from Greece who wish to come to Palestine.
David Ben-Gurion, chairman of the executive of the Jewish Agency, told the gathering that by exterminating and expelling the Jews from all the countries which they had occupied, the Nazis had proclaimed the Jews their “Enemy No. 1.” The United Nations, however, he asserted, have so far refused to recognize the Jews as full-fledged allies.
