The Warsaw ghetto, though long “judenrein,” is still forbidden land to any outsider, it was reported here today by an eye-witness arriving from Warsaw.
The ghetto, he stated, is now nothing but a huge mass of ruins. Not a building left intact. Nevertheless no one is allowed to enter its walls without special permission. The main entrances are guarded by strong platoons of Nazi Elite Guards.
“The only residents are about 200 Jews deported from Holland, who were brought in for the purpose of clearing the debris,” the eye-witness said. “They are sheltered in specially improvised barracks. Now and then time bombs going off break the silence were formerly there was so much life. The ruins are strewn with the corpses of Jews who lost their lives in their last heroic resistance to the Germans.”
