The Council of the Jewish labor Party which was concerned to settle internal differences of opinion concluded today after deciding to hold new elections for labor Party representatives to the executive committee of the Histadruth, in which the Labor Party has a majority. This is considered a victory for the section of the party which supports the Biltmore Declaration.
The opposition group did not participate in the voting on the resolution. The decision to hold new elections within the labor Party for delegates to the executive committee of the Histadruth was precipitated by the fact that of the 21 members of the committee who last week voted against the Biltmore Declaration, sixteen represented the Labor Party. It was claimed at the session today that these 16 did not reflect the sentiments of the electors.
The Council of the Labor Party also decided to urge the Histadruth to call a Histadruth conference as soon as possible in order to pass on the resolution with regard to the future status of Palestine which Palestine Jewish delegates are to introduce at the international trade union congress which is to take place in London in June. Another resolution adopted by the Council invites members of the Histadruth who are not affiliated with any political group to join the Labor Party.
