The trade agreement negotiated last month between Palestine and Egypt will shortly enter into effect, the Cairo press reports. Egyptian newspapers reaching here today state that the government has already agreed to import increasingly larger quantities of citrus fruit after April 1.
Other commodities that will be taken by Egypt are fruit juice, olive oil, telephone equipment, electrical supplies, leather goods and chemicals and pharmaceutical supplies. Prices for these commodities were fixed by the trade agreement, as was the question of facilitating Egyptian visas for Palestine businessmen, the Cairo papers add.
The leading Palestine Arab newspaper, Falastin, commenting on the projected imports by Egypt says that as far as the citrus industry is concerned, they will be of little assistance, since the harvesting season ends shortly.
